Alfredo grew up in Mexico's institutional care system. He lived in a group home on the northeast coast of Baja, but was transferred many times through the system, eventually landing in a DIF (child protective services) temporary shelter. On his 18th birthday, he aged out of the program. Our team stepped in, took him to lunch, and welcomed him into his new home. By the time Alfredo arrived at the Mentoring House, he had no other housing or support options. He holds a high school diploma and has experience in a barbershop program, and hopes to continue pursuing a career in that industry.
